A day in a client’s life
What will my daily life look and feel like once I hire Assisting Hands’ in-home support? How worried – or not – should I be while I am at work and a total stranger is assisting my mother, uncle, or child at home? How will I know the caregiver is doing what I have hired Assisting Hands for?
There are many ways to answer these and other frequent customer questions, which we try to do throughout this website. You hire us for the peace of mind we provide. But how can we ensure compliance with quality quality standards? Parts of the answer come from our intake processes, quality-control procedures and caregiver–selection criteria.
Fine. But those are high-level descriptions. The question I am asking is: what does an actual day look like?
Each client’s needs and circumstances are unique. So let’s look at a hypothetical example built with snippets from real-life cases and common caregiving situations:
Theresa is a busy professional who works long hours and hires Assisting Hands to assist her mother six times a week. Mary, 79, has dementia, is incontinent and needs support with essential activities of daily living. Her memory has been declining rapidly, and other health issues have arisen in recent months.
Due to her intense needs of in-home support, Mary’s case is entitled to one free supervisory visit by a nurse every week. Over the past six weeks, per Theresa’s request, two nurse visits are performed each week. That is four above the monthly plan of free supervisions, and they are paid in addition to caregiver services, at a low fee.
Andrea, the case manager who acts as Theresa’s main contact within the Assisting Hands office, coordinates Mary’s care, which requires two daily shifts, from 7am to 2pm, and from 2pm to 10pm, staffed by Betty and Rasheeda.

|2:10||Rasheeda arrives. Nurse discusses additions to plan of care with both aides. Betty informs that due to incontinence incident she was unable to clean kitchen after lunch. She clocks out and leaves.
(Rasheeda is distracted by the conversation with the visiting nurse and forgets to clock in.)
|Nurse takes notes that will be added to the weekly report to Theresa. Suggests discussing strong reaction to blue pill with geriatrician.
Online management system registers end of Betty’s shift.
