In-Home Care Franchise Fights for Small Business, Senior Care

NAMPA, ID (November 17, 2015) — In-home care franchise company Assisting Hands Home Care announced that it is continuing to promote and preserve the interests of franchising by protecting their client families’ access to affordable home care in a time of turbulent political regulations.

While in Washington D.C. in September attending the Home Care Association of America (HCAOA) Leadership Conference, as well as the Franchise Action Network Annual Meeting, Assisting Hands representatives were able to advocate in favor of fair workplace and labor policies.

Policy makers are considering altering the Joint Employer Standard, which has historically recognized the differences between franchisee and franchisor. A recent bill could remove franchise protections, imposing the same requirements that larger parent companies face upon small business owners. In-home care is particularly vulnerable to changes because many of its employees are part-time workers.

“By adopting this law, Congress would guarantee the elimination of thousands of jobs across the U.S.,” said Lane Kofoed, president and CEO of Assisting Hands. “That’s why we felt it was imperative to converge on Capitol Hill and demonstrate how the changes to overtime regulations and minimum wage requirements would impact our franchisees. The ramifications of such a decision could be dire.”
