Congratulations to our caregiver of the month for January, Katie Martin! Katie’s clients have some wonderful things to say about her…and so do we!
About Katie
Katie truly has a heart and passion for healthcare. She has aspirations in the medical field and we know that she will make a fantastic doctor one day! She truly wants to learn about and gain experience in all aspects of the field, including the personal and hands-on care we provide here at Assisting Hands.
Katie is a flexible and versatile caregiver; she is always ready to jump into different situations, is a quick learner, and is always dependable. She has a naturally calm presence which can be reassuring for our clients, particularly those with dementia. We couldn’t be more pleased to have her working with us for now and we are excited for her future endeavors!
Here’s Katie in her own words:
1) What inspired you to become a caregiver and go into healthcare?
All my friends, family, coworkers, and clients have inspired me to pursue healthcare. There is nothing more fulfilling than offering your time to help others. I love it when I can brighten someone’s day, and I love seeing people happy and healthy.
2) What advice would you give new caregivers?
Be compassionate. Knowledge and experience are important, but the best caregivers are the ones that really care about what they what they are doing. Your clients should know that you respect them and value them.
3) Why do you like to work for your home care clients with Assisting Hands?
All my clients are easy-going. They are fun to talk with, and I love listening to their stories and connecting with them. They have made as much of an impact on me as I have on them. My clients have led amazing lives, and I feel their stories will inspire me for years to come.
4) What are your future goals?
Ultimately, I would like to become a heart surgeon. I am in the process of applying to medical school right now. Everyone at Assisting Hands has been incredibly supportive of this. Thank you for that!
5) What do you like to do in your free time?
I spend most of my time with my family. We enjoy visiting the Morton Arboretum and bowling. I also play board games and pool with my mom and her friends every week. It’s lots of fun.
