March Caregiver of the Month: Diana

March 25, 2020ahadlock

Every month, we love to give out some well-deserved acknowledgement to a member of our team by awarding them Caregiver of the Month. Month after month, we find ourselves giving out this award to caregivers for simply being their own amazing selves, not just that month, but all of the time! This month is no exception as we say a huge thank you to Diana for consistent and compassionate home care service to our clients!

Diana is an authentically and deeply caring person with a natural heart for helping others. She is truly hands-on with her clients in the best way. Not only practically for activities of daily living, but also by brainstorming ways to engage and uplift them. Diana even cooks for her clients…one of our personal favorite forms of care!

Here is Diana in her own words, speaking about the job she loves. Thank you for your service Diana, and for the perfect advice for new caregivers!

March-Caregiver-Month-Diana

1) What inspired you to become a caregiver?

In the jobs I have had through the years, I always felt the need to provide a service to others. As I transitioned from an office environment to becoming a caregiver, it gave me the opportunity to give back to the community on a more hands on and personal level working directly with clients and their families to offer them peace of mind while caring for their loved one.

2) What advice would you give new caregivers at Assisting Hands?

Be a good listener. Look for signs of what the client’s needs are and plan ahead whenever possible. Be present in the moment. Let the client do for themselves what they can and be there to assist as needed. Life is about being true to self and to others. Show empathy, compassion, and patience. Love your job and the good you can provide to others. It is priceless when you see a gleam in your client’s eyes along with a smile on their face knowing what a difference you made in their day and for the family.

3) Why do you like to work for your home care clients with Assisting Hands?

Every day that I am visiting clients in their homes brings new challenges as no days are ever alike. I have the opportunity to do meaningful work everyday by helping clients manage their activities of daily living whether it is running errands, taking them to appointments, assisting with personal care, home maintenance, preparing nutritious meals, and providing companionship. Working with an enthusiastic and supportive team of caregivers and staff at Assisting Hands makes my job so much better and run seamlessly.

I cannot say enough about the owner, Daniellah and her agency, and the effort she puts forth to match caregivers to her clients to ensure they are a good fit for them and their families. Also, it is because of her kindness and caring nature to her caregivers I take pride in being a part of her team as we are all like one family.

4) What do you like to do in your free time?

To me education is key to knowledge and learning helps me gain a better understanding. I keep up with topics of interest relating to the environment, mindful cooking, elder care, and healthcare issues by attending lectures, seminars, and classes. One of my passions is trying new cuisines with family and friends as well as experimenting with flavors creating simple, nutritious meals in the kitchen. Other pastimes I cherish is being out with nature walking or just hanging out with my pets.
