Did you know that more than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s Disease? That is a number that is expected to rise to 16 million by 2050 unless a cure is found. When caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s, the family often becomes overwhelmed or burned out. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, 35% of those who provide care for a family member with dementia report that their health has gotten worse. Caregivers from Assisting Hands are one resource for family members who need a break to support their OWN self care.

The North Shore Walk to End Alzheimer’s was a special chance to support those suffes from the disease, those who lost someone from the disease, and those who currently provide care and support together in one place. Our team of caregivers had a great time yesterday on this HOT September day in Glenview. Bringing the kiddos along was lots of fun, and amazingly we finished the race (not quickly while we stopped to smell all the roses along the way). Such great memories and we are looking forward to next year’s walk!
