They want to remain in the home they’ve lived in for decades, continue to shop in local stores and socialize with their friends in the community. This is known as aging in place.

But as our loved ones get older, physical limitations might mean they need some help while at home. This is where informal, family caregivers and professional home care from a home health agency come in. Depending on the amount of help they need and each family’s situation, caregiving can get overwhelming.

 

While 76% of Americans age 50 and older say they prefer to remain in their current residence and 77% would like to live in their community as long as possible, just 59% anticipate they will be able to stay in their community, either in their current home (46%) or a different home still within their community (13%), according to a 2019 AARP report.
