Home Caregivers Staying Safe At Home

Staying Safe At Home

January 28, 2021Caregivers, safetymjefferson

Eileen Miligan:

Hello. I’m Eileen Miligan, Director of Nursing for Assisting Hands Home Care. We are a proud member of The Greater Bethesda Chamber of Commerce. I am here today to share with you important tips for keeping safe in your home and during this pandemic. These are some of the things you need to know to keep you and your caregivers safe. In your home, make sure your pathways are clear of clutter and safe for walking. Putting away small throw rugs is essential as they can easily cause trips and falls. In your bathroom, install fixed grab bars, use a shower chair and a non-slip shower mat, use a raised toilet and a handheld shower for extra safety.

Make sure that you have a fire extinguisher in your home and that your smoke detectors and fire alarms are in working order. Staying safe during the pandemic means wearing a mask at all times and social distancing when out and about. Remember to wash your hands often. Know the main signs and symptoms of COVID-19. They are fever, cough, loss of taste, headache, fatigue, and shortness of breath. What do you do if you have these symptoms? You should call your doctor right away. Thank you so much and be safe, from Assisting Hands Home Care team.

If you would like to schedule an appointment to discuss your Alzheimer’s and Dementia care needs or to set up a free in-home evaluation with one of our nurses, call us today in MD at (301) 363-2580, or in VA at (703) 556-8983. We are located in Bethesda, MD, (301) 363-2580, and Reston, VA, (703) 556-8983.
