The Common Signs of Dementia

Dementia is a general term for changes in memory, thinking, and other cognitive abilities that interfere with everyday life. While some forgetfulness can occur with normal aging, more frequent or significant changes may indicate that a senior needs additional support.

Here are some of the common first signs of dementia in seniors:

  • Forgetfulness or Confusion
  • Inability to Remember Details
  • Trouble Making Decisions
  • Difficulty Performing Simple Tasks

Recognizing the signs of dementia is important to ensure that your loved one receives the necessary care. Our dementia care services consist of a customized care plan that is specific to the needs of your loved one. The compassionate caregivers at Assisting Hands Home Care are dedicated to providing quality home care with a sense of stability to seniors with dementia in Hollywood, FL.

Alzheimer's and Dementia Care in Hollywood, FL - Assisting Hands Home Care

Dementia Care for Every Stage of Memory Loss

Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia progress differently for every individual. As memory loss and cognitive changes develop, the type and amount of assistance a senior needs may also change. Our caregivers provide personalized support based on the individual’s current abilities and care needs.

Early-Stage Dementia Care

During the early stages of dementia, seniors may remain largely independent but begin experiencing forgetfulness, difficulty maintaining routines, or trouble completing certain activities. Caregivers can provide companionship, transportation, meal preparation, medication reminders, and assistance with household routines while encouraging independence.

Middle-Stage Dementia Care

As dementia progresses, seniors may require more frequent assistance and supervision. Caregivers can help with personal care, meals, mobility, medication reminders, safety monitoring, cognitive activities, and maintaining a consistent daily routine.

Advanced Dementia Care

Seniors with advanced dementia may require extensive assistance with daily activities and increased supervision. Our caregivers can provide personalized support with personal care, mobility, meals, companionship, safety, and other non-medical needs while helping families maintain a comfortable home environment.

Types of Dementia We Support

Our caregivers provide personalized non-medical home care for seniors living with Alzheimer’s disease and various forms of dementia. Depending on the individual’s needs and care plan, support may be available for seniors experiencing:

  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Vascular dementia
  • Lewy body dementia
  • Frontotemporal dementia
  • Mixed dementia
  • Parkinson’s disease dementia

Because symptoms and care needs vary, our team develops individualized care plans based on the person rather than simply the type of dementia they have.

Benefits of Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care at Home

For many seniors with memory loss, familiar surroundings can provide a sense of comfort and stability. Dementia care at home allows your loved one to receive one-on-one assistance without immediately requiring a move to a residential care setting.

Benefits of in-home Alzheimer’s and dementia care can include:

  • Familiar Surroundings: Remaining at home allows seniors to stay around familiar rooms, belongings, routines, and memories that can provide comfort.
  • Personalized Attention: One-on-one caregiving allows support to be tailored to your loved one’s abilities, preferences, schedule, and changing needs.
  • Consistent Routines: Maintaining familiar daily routines can help provide structure and reduce unnecessary confusion or disruption.
  • Family Caregiver Relief: Professional caregivers can provide dependable assistance when family members need to work, rest, travel, run errands, or attend to their own responsibilities.
  • Support for Independence: Caregivers assist with activities your loved one can no longer safely manage alone while encouraging them to remain involved in tasks they can still perform independently.
  • Increased Safety: Caregivers can provide supervision and help maintain a clean, organized environment that reduces common household risks associated with cognitive decline.

Alzheimer’s Care
Rating 5 5 Star Moving Rating
"Assisting Hands has Home Care In Hollywood has been a blessing since we hired their services. My mom has Alzheimer’s and we needed someone to take good care of her while we were out at work. The CNA they sent is just great. She takes really good care of my mother and we are at ease knowing that she is eating well, taking her medicine not only at the appropriate times, but also with a full stomach as the doctor prescribed. The CNA reads for her, helps her do small walks and she also takes her to the doctor when we just can’t do it ourselves. The office staff is also great. They are on top of anything we need, any change in schedule and any last minute request. I recommend Assisting Hands to anyone who needs help with their parents."
