Some time back, an old friend and college classmate asked me to celebrate her birthday together. Of course, answering, “yes” was a no-brainer.
She went on to explain we would be spending her birthday at a yoga retreat in the Berkshire mountains. Now, I am not the “cheese puff & paint bucket sized Slurpee” type, but a wellness a vacation? A weekend of silent breakfast, strenuous exercise and chanting? Ummm, no.
But then there is this friend. A wonderfully dynamic, fairy god sister that is a tireless, farm strong, home schooling friend. So off to Kripalu I went. The weekend came and went. And I was utterly amazed at how AMAZING it was. Not only did I get to spend time with a dear friend, but I ate food that tasted as good as it made me feel. I did Sun Salutations with the dawn in view. I floated in a mountain lake. I unplugged. And recharged.
If you are a family caregiver considering a wellness vacation, I can’t encourage it enough. I recently came across this article from a few years back, that has some great tips.
