Helping a loved one in need can be difficult, time consuming, and stressful. This is particularly true when these tasks are added on top of a career, children, and other responsibilities.
At Assisting Hands, we offer respite care services to give family caregivers a much-deserved break. Our caregivers can provide assistance on a short-term or long-term basis and schedule their hours around your needs.
We currently offer these services to families in Niles, IL, and the surrounding areas.
By “informal caregiving”, we are referring to family members who care for a loved one in need. We call it “informal” because it is not a paid arrangement, and caregiving is not necessarily their chosen profession. These scenarios result in a shocking statistic that you should be aware of if you are an informal caregiver: Roughly 25% of all informal caregivers report that they are in poor or fair health. This can be boiled down to several key reasons:
- Informal caregiving services are provided on top of an already full schedule, resulting in minimal to no time for leisure.
- It can be extremely stressful to care for a loved one who struggles with seemingly simple tasks.
- Providing informal care often leads to insufficient levels of sleep.
If you feel bad for wanting to take a break, you are not alone. Tens of millions of adults across the United States care for an ailing family member, and many of them have the same thoughts. It is reasonable and expected to need time off.
Professional Respite Care
If you need a break from watching over a loved one, we encourage you to take advantage of our respite care services. Our caregivers are bonded and insured to provide in-home caregiving services and can modify their schedules and duties based on your requirements. Before we provide care, we will work with you to define these parameters. The tasks that we assist with range from meal preparation and light housekeeping to help with maintaining personal hygiene and getting safely ready for bed. Benefits to you include:
- Regularly-scheduled or single-time breaks from providing care
- Reduced stress and a lower risk of depression
- Greater peace of mind and energy levels
We would also like to note that we offer the services of male and female caregivers, many of whom are bilingual. We can match you with an ideal caregiver in less than 24 hours in most cases. They are all certified in CPR and first aid, as well. Additionally, we can connect you with family caregiving support groups if you’d like to talk to others going through similar situations.
We are happy to address any of your concerns and schedule an appointment. We accept long term care insurance to help cover the cost of these services.
