Naperville, Illinois is a nice place to live, no doubt about it and one of the reasons (in addition to shopping, doh) is its parks where people love to spend time during the warm summer months.
Naperville Park District maintains and operates more than 2,400 acres with 137 parks and facilities and provides more than 1,500 recreational, arts and environmental programs and special events annually.
A few of the amenities in the parks are
- Springbrook & Naperbrook golf courses
- multiple playgrounds (check out the one by the river – the Naperville Jaycee Playground)
- trails
- athletic courts
- sports fields (check out the Nike Sports Complex)
- Fort Hill Activity Center
- Knoch Knolls Nature Center
- Inline skating and skateboarding facilities
- The Millennium Carillon
- Centennial Beach
- Riverwalk
One thing to keep in mind is that different parks have different amenities so it’s important to know what you know begore you head out. But not only that – some of the parks would be accessible by car only so you need to decide if you want to drive. The best way to find out what each park has to offer is to visit their websites. 137 parks is a lot, isn’t it? If you were to visit only one I would suggest the Riverwalk. What’s so special about it? Well, plenty of things but what I like the most is watching other people walking and talking. And part of it is through downtown Naperville so one can stop by the Nichols library for a sip of water, or watch the ducks in the river, or cross the bridge and explore the newly built Hotel Indigo and the stores and restaurants on the ground floor. Or, if the weather is hot as it often gets in the summer dip in the pool of Centennial Beach.
If you want to spend time outside listening to the sounds of the river or kids playing or just want a quite place to stroll Naperville has it all.
