10 Great Ways Houston Facility Caregivers Can Personalize A Memorial Service

Celebrating Life: 10 Great Ways To Create A Personalized Memorial Service At A Facility

When you are planning a memorial service for someone who lived in a facility when they passed away, it is a good idea to focus on some of the qualities that make them unique. Personalizing their service will help all of their loved ones, as well as other residents, to achieve a sense of closure. Here are 10 ways to honor the life of your resident by having a personalized memorial.

1. Gather Quotes

Prior to the service, take note of any quotes used by residents and staff to describe the one who has passed on. This can be done by recording simple words or detailed memories. Read them during the memorial.

2. Select A Poem

Choose a poem for someone to read during the service. Search for one that captures the essence of the resident. For instance, if they were an animal lover, finding a poem that showcases this would be ideal.

3. Get Their Family And Friends Involved

Ask their family and friends if they would like to help with the service. Give them ideas of how they can be a part of it. Once it is clear who will be performing each activity and when, you can add it to your timeline. This will ensure everything runs smoothly.

4. Create A Table Of Memories

This table can include a nice covering, pictures of the departed, flowers, candles and any items that will showcase the interests and hobbies of the departed. Having this table present will set the tone and offer a symbol of your respect to the person in question.

5. Pass A Photo Around

There are some residents who may have a difficult time remembering what the deceased individual looked like. Have a photo available that can be passed around at the start of service. This will help them refresh their memory. It will also give everyone who is present the opportunity to feel more connected to the service.

6. Read A Scripture

Was the departed a religious person? If they were, reading scripture would be a meaningful, respectable gesture.

7. Distribute A Handout

Whether it is a copy of a poem someone will be reading or a program describing the service, offer people a way to follow along. They can also hold onto it and use it as a keepsake.

8. Offer Personalized Refreshments

Provide a table that has food and refreshments for the guests. As a personalized touch, add items that were loved by the resident, like a certain type of pastry or coffee.

9. Discuss Highlights Of Their Life

This can be done by talking about their marriages, personal achievements, military service, family members and any milestones that stand out. You should also consider creating a memory board filled with photos from the past and present. If you are not in possession of many photos, you should ask their friends and family if they would like to provide any.

10. Sing Or Play Music

A beautiful song can evoke powerful emotions during this event. Including live or recorded music as part of the service will make things complete. Select a song that was a favorite of the departed or one that will remind everyone of how great they are.
