Elder Care Services: The Healthiest Meal Options For Seniors

If you have an elderly loved one in your life, you may find it difficult to provide the best senior care services possible. This guide outlines a few healthy meals that will help keep their strength up and their stomach full.

1. Oatmeal For Seniors

Starting the day with a warm bowl of oatmeal is a great choice. Not only is it easy to eat, but it is healthy too. First, turn your crock-pot to low. Add either frozen or fresh berries and a bit of butter. Mix in a serving of old-fashioned oats, along with some water. Put on the lid and allow the oatmeal to cook for a few hours. You can leave it cooking while you sleep if you want to wake up to an easy meal. When it is finished, the oatmeal will be very soft and easy to eat. At Assisting Hands, our health care experts make sure to always provide the best for our seniors.

2. Waffles Or Pancakes

Another great breakfast meal is either waffles or pancakes. Because seniors are often in need of fiber, look for a product that has flax in it. Put berries on top of the pancakes or the waffles. If you are concerned about protein, put out a side of almonds or walnuts as well.

Yogurt is easy to eat and is quite healthy too. Simply combine yogurt, fruit and nuts; your loved one will get a good dose of carbohydrates, Vitamin C and the good kind of fat all at once. Dairy-free foods are the best option for anybody looking to get better health. Plant-based options are always the best. Prevent many diseases by going to plant-based yogurt, cheese, milk, and more/

4. Toast For Healthy Senior Meal Options

Toast sounds boring, but when you put a little peanut butter on it, it makes the bread a great source of protein. Add a side of fruit as well.

5. Eggs In The Morning For Senior Citizens

There are so many ways to serve eggs. You can give your loved one a hard-boiled egg. You can give them a poached egg. No matter how you prepare it, add a side of fruits or vegetables to go along with it. For an easy lunch, make a few red potatoes on the stove. Scramble up some eggs to go with it. Don’t season with salt, since that can be bad for seniors. Instead, fresh spices should do the trick.

6. Quinoa As A Protein Source For The Elderly

What are some other lunch ideas? Consider preparing a quinoa salad. All you need is a few vegetables, like red pepper and onions, along with pecans and quinoa. Add your favorite salad dressing and you have a very healthy meal that you can refrigerate and eat all week long.

7. Cottage Fries For Seniors

Take red potatoes and slice them up. Toss some EVOO in a skillet and prepare the potatoes. Add some vegetables and shredded cheddar cheese to the top. Cover and take it off the stove, allowing all the ingredients to have a few minutes to combine flavors before serving.

8. Salmon For Grandparents

Salmon is a perfect meal for dinner! Simply bake this fish and add a little onion, tomato, basil and garlic to the top during the cooking process. Wrap the entire mixture in aluminum foil and cook on 300 degrees for fifteen minutes. You want the fish to flake but you don’t want it to be dried out.

9. Lamb For Older Folks

Take ground lamb and create small meatballs from it. Have some red potatoes prepared ahead of time; chop them up, as well as a clove of garlic. Add a little EVOO to a skillet and cook the garlic for five minutes, adding a little basil along the way. Put the lamb in and brown it. Then add the potatoes, cover the skillet and let everything cook for ten minutes. Mix it all up and then cook for five more minutes.

10. Pasta And Shrimp

You really can’t go wrong with this meal. Warm up a saucepan with a little olive oil and butter. Put in shrimp, garlic and herbs. Cook until the shrimp is no longer pink. At the same time, cook some pasta. Add the pasta to a plate and top it with the shrimp mixture, as well as a few chopped tomatoes.

11. Liver

Get out that trusty skillet again and warm up some EVOO. Add liver slices, chopped fennel, cabbage and red onion. Add the cover and let it all cook until the liver is no longer tough.
